FAQ
If you haven’t been to physical therapy before, you likely have some questions about what it involves. Below, you will find answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you have other concerns, please contact Optimum Rehab.
What should I expect during my first visit?
Dr. Eggiman will perform an evaluation during your first visit. An evaluation is an overall assessment of your current condition. He may take specific measurements and will likely ask you lots of questions. Filling out the paperwork prior to your first appointment greatly expedites this step of the process.
After Dr. Eggiman completes the evaluation, you will set goals together, so please come with goals in mind. From there, he will provide you with a plan to help you feel better, called a treatment plan.
What should I expect during my subsequent visits?
Dr. Eggiman will use a variety of research based techniques to get you back to your normal self. He may use techniques such as joint mobilization, stretching, strengthening, posture training, massage and more.
Your condition may benefit from the use of physical agents like heat, ice, ultrasound or electrical stimulation. Exercise may be used to increase range of motion, improve function, and increase strength. Dr. Eggiman will take time to educate you on your condition so that you can better understand what is happening with your body.
You will be given exercises to do at home. This is paramount to the success of your care and consistency with a home program can greatly reduce your healing time.
How often do I have to come to Optimum Rehab?
The frequency of your visits will be decided after your evaluation. Just as no two individuals are the same, no two treatment plans are the same. Patients can generally expect visiting Optimum Rehab one to three times a week, along with in home exercises, until their issue is resolved.
How long does an appointment take?
Appointments typically take an hour. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
What should I wear?
Loose fitting, comfortable clothing is recommended. Expect that exercise and movement will be part of your treatment plan and dress accordingly. We have private changing rooms available.
What should I bring?
In addition to your goals for therapy, please bring your photo ID and your insurance card. If necessary, please bring a form of payment and a doctor’s referral if you have one.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
You do not need a referral to receive physical therapy. Although rare, some insurance companies require a referral to cover your PT services. We are happy to help you with this process.
Will insurance pay for my visit?
Please check the benefits of your insurance provider. We are happy to check with your insurance on your behalf. Optimum Rehab accepts most major insurance providers.
